Dashan

Crazy horse leather : full grain cow leather immersed in oil. Every scuff you rub with your thumb darkens back into the surface, and the bag builds a patina that maps where your hands go. The lining is denim, picked to take the same years of use.

Real, and visibly so. The Dashan is cut from full grain cow leather, the top layer of the hide with its natural traces, veins and small marks left in. Faux leather stays uniform for life; this one will not, and that is the point.

No: this model exists in brown or coffee cow leather. If you want the drawstring format in black leather, the WALTER small black leather backpack is its closest sibling.

A full day. The main compartment takes a jacket and lunch alongside a laptop held by the laptop divider, the inner zippered pocket keeps the valuables, and the flap front pocket plus two side zipped pockets leave phone and keys at hand. A secret back pocket sits against your spine for whatever must not walk away, and 5 protective rivets under the base let you set it down without thinking about it.

The material is water-resistant, not waterproof. It can withstand light rain and splashes, but avoid heavy or prolonged rain and immersion. Protect electronics separately, wipe off moisture and let the bag dry naturally away from direct heat.

Weight. Full grain leather is dense: the Dashan weighs 1.6 kg before you pack a single thing. That mass is exactly what lets it last for years, but if you count grams on the way to work, a modern fabric pack, such as one of our Sandqvist backpacks, is the other honest option.
